No one knows exactly how or when coffee was discovered, though there are many legends about its origin. It’s consumed all over the world and prepared in a variety of different ways, and even though it’s been around for decades – third wave coffee movement is booming stronger than ever.
Coffee has become an artisanal food, like wine, rather than a commodity. And while numerous coffee shops and cafes are specialized in third wave coffee, many enjoy their beloved “pick-me-up” in the comfort of their own home. And along with the endless options of brands, comes the countless coffee packaging designs.
Just a simple visit to the local supermarket will show you examples of the good and bad, but also an idea of what are the main guidelines most coffee brands follow. And whether you buy your coffee as beans or readily ground up, the array packaging options on the market is as diverse and plentiful as the coffee brands offering them. All following the classic combination of functional and eye-catching, as the main aim of all brands is to keep the coffee safe during shipment and attracting the eye of new customers.
Kofea reimagines the coffee packaging
The Kofea is an interesting take on the classic coffee packaging, designed as a prototype for the Model Young Package 2018 under the topic of Coffee Mania.
The packaging contains coffee, white sugar, raw sugar, and milk powder so one can flavor their coffee as they like. With the outer protective packaging made of non-colored cardboard paper, the Kofea has a strong artisanal feel. Separated by color, the different sachets inside each have their own “department” in the origami-inspired folded packaging. The inside folds hide a nice detail on printed pattern, while the closed packaging only features a playfully distinctive serif logo.
