Salt Restaurant Visual Identity by Studio Nur Reflects a Sustainable Gastronomy Concept

What would life taste like without salt? This was the question Budapest-based design Studio Nur asked themselves when tasked with creating a new visual identity design for a Hungarian fine dining restaurant Salt. Studio Nur, headed by the well-known and talented designer Ester Laki, whose work we adore and have featured countless times before, is responsible for the outstanding and beautiful visual identity and branding of numerous culinary establishments in Hungary. Known for their elegant, cohesive, and contemporary style, Studio Nur’s talent lies in details and thoughtful execution from concept to material choices.

A fine dining experience defined by forgotten wild ingredients and peasant foods of the Hungarian countryside

Run by an exceptional chef, Szilárd Tóth, Salt restaurant is a fine dining place defined by forgotten wild ingredients and peasant foods of the Hungarian countryside. Their kitchen is based on sustainable sources using edible plants and local ingredients from Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county, where the chef originates from. They work closely with botanists to discover the whole range of edible plants and using fermentation as their main preservation technique.

The restaurant is located in the city center of Budapest, behind Hotel Rum, a boutique hotel inside a beautiful Neo-Renaissance building in the 5th district of Budapest with a playfully fresh visual identity Studio Nur also designed. So you cannot enter the restaurant from the street, however, the huge store windows indicate that something special happens behind the glass curtain. Watch a video by CNN for a peek behind the scenes of the restaurant.

The earthy feeling of the concept is evoked by plant, stone and wood illustrations, natural materials, and Crush Corn, an eco-friendly paper exclusively available at Europapier, which was chosen for its real food ingredient content that adds to the story of the restaurant.

Salt’s visual identity printed on Crush Corn reflects the restaurant’s sustainable gastronomy concept

The graphic identity by Studio Nur reflects the gastronomy concept of the Salt restaurant. The studio uses natural motifs and hand-drawn gestures in the design, echoing the rustic feel and atmosphere of the high-end eatery with an experimental twist.

The earthy feeling of the concept is evoked by plant, stone and wood illustrations, natural materials, and Crush Corn, an eco-friendly paper exclusively available at Europapier, which was chosen for its real food ingredient content that adds to the story of the restaurant. The natural color, feel and texture of the paper appeals to the designers, while effortlessly uniting with the mood and style of Salt. The visual identity uses the letter S as a shorter sign for the logo, surrounded by grains of salt, as the restaurant’s motto says: What would life taste like without salt?
