Over a period of time, the total pattern created by all of the issues will result in a reflection of central spotlights of contemporary art production, like a two-dimensional exhibition.

Over a period of time, the total pattern created by all of the issues will result in a reflection of central spotlights of contemporary art production, like a two-dimensional exhibition. With its impressive, notorious size of 570 ✕ 420 mm, the image itself is the main focus of the publication. Each edition of Parabol is produced by a chosen curator, whose task is to examine a specific contemporary phenomenon in pictures and words on the basis of artistic points of view.

To celebrate the 10th season of the Viennese cultural networking platform Kültüř Gemma, Gürsoy Doğtaş curated a special edition of Parabol Art Magazine

The Vienna-based Kültüř Gemma project promotes and supports the local art scene by awarding four free work grants and four fellowships to migrant and BIPOC artists and cultural workers each year. In addition to the financial and non-material support of individual projects, kültüř gemma acts as a cultural networking platform. Their goal is to establish migrant positions in the predominantly white cultural scene as a matter of course and to do justice to the plurality of the city in cultural life as well.

Following the idea of Aby Warburg’s Mnemosyne Picture Atlas, 18 Kültüř Gemma scholarship holders and fellows whose work is showcased in the Kültüř Gemma Parabol Edition were asked to dig up a small excerpt of their own personal archives. Based on the idea of the Mnemosyne Picture Atlas, this issue of Parabol brings together artistic contributions and process sketches as well as sources of inspiration and conceptual works that are representative of the respective artistic practice.

Artists: Cana Bilir-Meier, Carla Bobadilla, Vlatka Frketić, Sattva Giacosa, Masha Godovannaya, Naomi Afia Güneş-Schneider, Danilo Jovanović, Srdjan Knežević, Betül Şeyma Küpeli, Ivana Marjanović, Andrea Palašti, Bárbara Palomino Ruiz, Mariel Rodríguez Rodríguez, Yusimi Moya Rodriguez, Songül Sönmez, Sanela Stanković, Daliah Touré, and Vina Yun

While the large-format magazine itself is inspiring in both concept and design, the unique paper bag designed to carry the magazine is made out of Refit Wool Blue 250 gsm – exclusively available at Europapier Group.
