Since I spotted these beauties on a normal afternoon Behance browse, I’ve been green with envy. The clever and honestly gorgeous combination of simplicity with an extravagant visual effect of reflective foil, oozes of quality while melting my paper and print-loving heart. The cards were designed for Budapest based photographer Al’z Ács by Hungarian designer Réka Neszmélyi, while the logo is the handy work of Graz based creative Ádám Katyi.
It’s no wonder the design caught my eye and left me catching for my breath as it combines the three cornerstones of my design obsession: minimalism, great typography and an element of surprise. The logo by Adam Katyi is a testament to his skills as well as his concrete and clean style. But the way cold foil printing is used is unusual. The technique of cold foil printing, also known as cold foil stamping, is a modern method of printing metallic foil on a substrate in order to enhance the aesthetic of the final product. And most often it is used on text or the logo to highlight it from the rest, but here, it has been given the star role. The clever way of simply covering a strategically chosen area with the foil creates a beautiful effect. These business cards are a prime example how you can do so much with so little, when the elements are chosen carefully.
