This set of amazing fashion photographs taken by Iban Montero were inspired by famous fashion portraits from the 50’s. Each garment was made by hand, from a seamless piece of paper by designer and stylist Ane Lopez.
The incredibly precise and clean handwork done by Lopez is perfectly captured in Montero’s collection of photographs. The movement and feel of the retro dresses, the way he manages to reflect light of a normally flat material really encapsulates the era.
The garments were extremely fragile as “any movement caused wrinkles and tears in the paper,” Montero said. It seems as if the photographs mirror the rigid and unforgiving world of fashion.
Even though the dresses and garments themselves are totally unusable in normal life, the collection itself presents an interesting experience in artistic photography and shows how many different shapes and forms can be made of paper. Our personal favourite is the dress with the bow shown in the first photo – it is amazing how perfectly the paper falls!
