This is one of the cutest ideas ever! I fell in love with the idea immediately when I stumbled upon it online. Jordan Grace Owens custom makes personalized paper dolls, based on a photograph of you, family pets or your best friend. A great and simple idea, which makes your childhood dream come true (at least mine!).
Jordan Grace Owens is an American artist and illustrator with a very recognizable style. Her drawings and portraits often have people in them, done with a slightly retro feel. She uses a lot of colors and cartoonish characters, and even though we are fans of all of her work, we fell in love with the paper dolls. The idea is simple, yet so great, that we wonder why it hasn’t been done before.
To get your own, you send in a photograph of the person, people or animals you wish to be made into paper dolls. Couples and family pets seem to be the most popular thing to do when browsing through the portfolio. Just think what an amazing gift it would be!
The artists make the dolls about 6 inches (ca. 15 cm) tall. All illustrated and hand-colored using a marker, ink and colored pencils. The pieces are cut from thick cover-weight paper and assembled with tiny metal brads. She sends them in fun little packages.
The paper dolls have become so incredibly popular, the waiting list to get your own now reaches next year’s February. But for the very reasonable price of less than 30 Euro, I’m more than willing to wait for my own. When you’re ordering your own, she asks you for a very detailed description of the person’s hairstyle, clothes, and special requests, and you know she really takes pride in her work. Jordan Grace Owens’ paper dolls make a perfect alternative for the usual family portrait.
