Budapest based agency DE_FORM is known for creating powerful visual solutions in the cultural field at different scales, ranging from exhibition design to museum branding. Their belief is that distinctive design should always be coupled with smart visual concepts that can emphasize the story of the brand. Every year, the studio designs a special calendar in collaboration with EUROPAPIER Budapest and EPC Nyomda printing house.
We always strive to apply innovative solutions in our calendars and to utilize the properties of the papers. Our calendar for 2024 is a functional design object that gains a new visuality week by week through the play of colors and shapes.
As the primary material, they chose a special semi-transparent paper, the 60-gram IBO made by Reflex. To this, they cleverly have associated an exciting visual effect that not only makes the calendar functional but also lends it dynamic excitement. By using IBO, developed by the world-renowerd book designer Irma Boom, the calendar shows a different face each week and hints at what comes next. The typographic image for each month was crafted by one designer from DE_FORM, reflecting excitingly on the given month.

Another type of paper selected is COLOR STYLE RECYCLING, colored cardboards made out of 100% recycling fibers. With these papers, introduced previously here, the studio created not just a visual variety but also conveyed the colors of the seasons: apple, an intense green shade for spring, followed by mandarin a bright orange shade for summer, orchid, a tranquil purple tone for autumn and last but not least azure, a light blue shade for winter. Besides being a refreshing and vibrant color range, Color STYLE Recycling offers a great, uniform surface for printing and good color fidelity, making it the ideal choice for a wide range of applications.
The backbone of the calendar, holding it all together, is the impressive SUMO Board, a high thickness cardboard in 1,5mm, known for its superior quality, structural strength and solid dyed core. Even more impressive, the stocked range by Europapier goes up to 3mm for the black & white versions, and 1,5mm for the coloured version.
The dazzling calendar was produced in a total number of 1000 pieces, which were gifted to the customers of all three companies involved in the collaboration. We at Design&Paper were also lucky to get our own copy, which brightens the mood each morning with its playful typography design. Printed in offset, and bounded by a metal spiral binding, the cover of the calendar also comes in the four different Color STYLE Recycling Shades mentioned above.
