An English artist based in The Netherlands, Emi Hazlett specializes in intricate paper models and artworks. Inspired by the beautiful Dutch architecture of the canal houses surrounding her home in Amsterdam, Hazlett’s creations are stunning in detail and whimsy. Hazlett, who goes by the name Emi, has worked as a professional designer with over 10 years of industry experience and enjoys creating all sorts of objects, scenes, and scenarios out of paper and other media. Her creations have appeared in window displays, advertising campaigns, and editorial pieces, as well as in personal collections, as her works are available for anyone to purchase or commission.
“From the initial idea to the finished piece, each artwork I create is utterly unique and made with love”
Similarly to many creatives around the world, Emi’s paper architecture project began while in lockdown, when she decided to replicate the house she could see from her window in paper – and so her love for recreating buildings was born.
From photographs, I design each building digitally, cut on my plotter, and then fold, shape, and assemble each little piece by hand.
“From photographs, I design each building digitally, cut on my plotter, and then fold, shape, and assemble each little piece by hand”, Emi writes. Using high-quality textured paper, she alternates working between all-white paper and beautiful colors. Some of the artworks are three-dimensional and free-standing, while others are built of layers and showcased in box frames, but all are equally stunning in detail and structure, while the technical work is just mesmerizing.
