Explore the Funghi World of Poland With The Grzyby Polskich Lasów Atlas

Grzyby polskich lasów (eng. “Mushrooms of Polish forests” ) is a beautiful 508-page atlas of mushrooms, designed by Marta Krzemień-Ojak and written by Paweł Zarzyński, for the Polish State Forests Information Centre for State Forests. The atlas presents over 200 Funghi species that can be found in the forests of Poland. It presents information about their occurrence, characteristics and – though in principle not a pocketbook to mushroom identification – makes identification of the species simple due to the hymenophore designation placed in the external margin.

The publication consists of a descriptive part and a presentation of individual mushroom species. Also, in the back of the book, it contains a comprehensive index of Latin, Polish and local names as well as a bibliography.

Understanding the requirements for texture and color reproduction, Marta Krzemień-Ojak chose Pergraphica Classic Smooth paper

The designer, Marta Krzemień-Ojak, surprisingly has a background in architecture yet is specialized in print design, with a particular interest in editorial design and book covers. For the past ten years, Krzemień-Ojak has worked for major Polish publishing houses: Pascal, Nasza Księgarnia, Poltext, TADAM – to name just a few. And since 2019, she has had the pleasure to work for the State Forests Information Centre as well.

For Grzyby polskich lasów the designer chose uncoated Pergraphica Classic Smooth 120 gsm due to its texture and beautiful high-quality color reproduction – a characteristic that was crucial for the precise Funghi species presentation.

With numerous beautiful and successful editorial design projects under her belt, Krzemień-Ojak understands the effort and thought process that goes into designing a book, from material choices to typefaces.

For Grzyby polskich lasów the designer chose uncoated Pergraphica Classic Smooth 120 gsm due to its texture and beautiful high-quality color reproduction – a characteristic that was crucial for the precise Funghi species presentation. The hardcover, Old Gold-colored, works perfectly with the stamping details while the canvas spine gives the publication a very noble, elegant yet modern vibe.
