Utilizing illustration, especially line drawing, has become all the rage in branding lately. It seems to be the budding trend of 2019 and we’re not unpleased to the least as it always seems to bring a level of personality to a field that otherwise can be somewhat monotone. With contemporary minimalism and clean sleek typography dominating, a unique hand-drawn illustration brings a touch of charm and charisma making a branding concept more approachable. A perfect example of this is the freshly made identity for Plan – a coffee shop & bar in Poznań, Poland – by illustrator Ewelina Dymek and art director and designer Damian Skotzke.
Working closely with the owners of Plan, Damian Skotzke who runs his one-man studio TZKE and specializes in branding and visual identity together with incredibly talented illustrator Ewelina Dymek, created a concept inspired by cinema (Plan = “movie set” translated in Polish). So apart from sipping a cup of aromatic coffee, drinking refreshing wine cocktails, enjoying delicious cakes and sandwiches, Plan is a perfect place to spend quality time with your friends and watch movies in regular movie screenings.
The concept combines a dusty millennial pink with an electric blue, as well as a clean serif font with a hand-drawn logo. A play on the opposites; feminine and masculine, bold and light. The illustrations by Dymek are created as one-line-drawings, a style of illustration which is created by a drawing a single line, uninterrupted from beginning to end, forming an image as a whole. The concept as a whole is intriguing, inviting you in for a closer look, and to stop by and relax for a minute. It’s no surprise Plan has become a loved spot among the locals!
