Plovdiv, Bulgaria based independent design studio Punkt creates and transforms appealing brand identities both on- and offline, regardless of their size or idea. Punkt’s talented team serves clients from diverse backgrounds – from corporate and start-ups to culture and non-profit organizations. Last year Punkt was asked to design a regional guide for the area of Plovdiv, as part of the program of Plovdiv – European Capital of Culture 2019.
“Regionale” is a fun and educational guide for tourism and culture in the region around Plovdiv
From the original concept to the colorful illustrations and thoughtful editorial design, Punkt designed the Regionale with a cohesive style inspired and influenced by the great Bulgarian artists like Stefan Kanchev as well as the illustrations of the soviet era.
Regionalе is a cultural guidebook that presents selected annual festivals and traditional Bulgarian holidays taking place in the region around our home town – Plovdiv. The edition invites the reader, whether a local or a tourist, to experience more of the unique culture and lifestyle of the region. The book shares a glimpse of the natural treasures you can experience along the way and includes a map where the little Regionale travelers can help you navigate.

Punkt developed custom typography for the titles in the guide, and a set of icons to represent the festival types. “The lively vibe of the illustrations was created by replacing the typical CMYK with the four Pantone colors. We then played with different dot patterns to create the layering of the halftone printing and thus making it colorful”, Punkt writes about the process and inspiration behind the vibrant illustrations in ‘Regionale’.
