Freelance illustrator and graphic designer, a graduate of the Graphic Design Department at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Joanna Gębal have built herself a packed CV full of rich and colorful projects. Her style is recognizably influenced by notoriously impressive Polish graphic design scene, with its muted color schemes, soft textures, and figures reminisced of cubism. Gębal’s taste and unique style can be enjoyed in her various editorial work in magazines, as well as in an award-winning children’s book „Popatrz w Niebo” – the winning project in a TrzyMamKsiążki competition organized by the Polish Book Institute.
Gębal’s talent of translating a narrated story into an illustration while captivating the viewer with layered, harmonious, soft images makes her work approachable. The at times delicate, yet full of contrast and abstract shapes, Gębal’s work balances on the fine line of feminine and masculine.
