The 36 Days of Type is a project that invites designers, illustrators, and graphic designers to express their particular interpretation of the letters and numbers of the Latin alphabet once a year. Taking place for the 7th time last February, the challenge which began as a personal project by two Barcelona based graphic designers, Nina Sans and Rafa Goicoechea, has gained a HUGE following on Instagram where the challenge garners thousands of participants in its every edition.
A yearly open call exploring the creative boundaries of the letterforms, where participants are challenged to design a letter or number each day for 36 consecutive days, as a global and simultaneously act showing the outcome of the ability to represent the same symbols from thousands different perspectives. The project aims to be a space for creation around typography and its endless graphic possibilities. Starting with A, and finishing with 9, with some editions adding the ampersand to the mix, the 36 Days of Type offers a unique opportunity for creatives to develop, and connect through a common interest.
