The Mountain Dreamer

The Mountain Dreamer Book’s Special Haptic Transports The Reader Into A Dream-Like Dimension

Last year, we added lahnur® to our design papers range and sat down with the paper specialists at Lahnpaper to find out more about its unique properties, which we shared with all of you in this past article. A year has now passed since the launch and we have been enriched with knowledge and experience of lahnur® through a number of customer feedbacks and projects.  What is definitely palpable: the feel inspires everyone!  Book designers are particularly attracted to the special haptic of lahnur® and this is precisely the category where we’re diving in today, namely a very special book called “The Mountain Dreamer”.

The Mountain Dreamer – A Travel Companion to Yourself by Jeannette Stockinger

Jeannette Stockinger, yoga teacher and transformation coach, is the author of the book  “The Mountain Dreamer – A Travel Companion to Yourself. “( orig. DE “Die Bergträumerin – ein Reisebegleiter zum Selbst.”), published by Dieter Halama, the owner of the “Verlag Villa Wiental – Räume für Träume” publishing house.  It was designed by Melchers Media and typeset and proofread by Heide Julie Halama.

In 20 conversations with spiritual people she meets on her journey to self-discovery, the “mountain dreamer” talks about mindfulness, awareness, love, and trust as the keys to a free and self-determined life.

The author challenges us to IMAGINE! She says, “Life is a magical game – Take a chance to recognize yourself in it.” In 20 conversations with spiritual people she meets on her journey to self-discovery, the “mountain dreamer” talks about mindfulness, awareness, love, and trust as the keys to a free and self-determined life. With her expressive collages, Jeannette Stockinger adds depth to the allegorical texts, creating a space for inspiration on one’s journey to self-discovery. At the end of each chapter, the author includes questions called “Feelings to Trace,” inviting everyone to reflect on life and their dreams.

The key-theme of the book deserved a medium which further enhances the story. Here is where lahnur® came into play.

In case you’re not yet familiar with lahnur®, here is a brief catch-up: lahnur® is a sustainable natural paper that perfectly combines the previously conflicting goals of durability, recyclability and sustainability! It is the ideal companion for those projects where paper is not resistant enough and a synthetic material is overkill, but is still used because it has to be more robust than paper. lahnur® is weather-resistant and impresses with its unmistakable feel. The feel is even rougher than that of conventional rough qualities and at the same time the quality has a softness, a woolly touch that cannot be compared with any paper quality on the market.  And it is precisely this feel that has already led to several striking realized projects, including our previous coverage on the book “Liquifer. Living Beyond Earth. Architecture for Extreme Environments” .

The cozy feel of lahnur® supports the theme of the book, and it creates a bridge to the dream world. It lures and invites the reader inside. Touching the cover, flipping through the pages, you can almost feel yourself entering a fluffy, surreal and dream-like dimension.

The Mountain Dreamer book took the haptic of lahnur® even further, as the entire book was completely printed on lahnur®. The cozy feel of the material supports the theme, and it creates a bridge to the dream world. It lures and invites the reader inside. Touching the cover, flipping through the pages, you can almost feel yourself entering a fluffy, surreal and dream-like dimension. This sensation is further enhanced by the collage-type-of-design found both on the cover and throughout the book – a further testament to the dream journey. For when we dream, our subconscious takes bits and pieces of information, images, memories, sensory experiences from different drawers of our mind and tries to puzzle them back together into a cohesive narrative. Often, it results into such a collage, which could seem illogical at first, but could be unlocked if we learn to know ourselves.

With her expressive collages, Jeannette Stockinger adds depth to the allegorical texts, creating a space for inspiration on one’s journey to self-discovery.

Lahnur® 150 g/m² was used for the entire book: the book cover was laminated with it, and the same grammage was also chosen for the front and back matter as well as the entire core. The print shop gave excellent feedback on the processing steps of lahnur®: high color intensity in offset printing, good interaction with the adhesive and the paper surface during lamination, very good running properties, no paper stretching during printing and cutting and folding were also problem-free.

“I want to climb to the top of the mountain and recognize myself in the process. Through every encounter on the outside, I recognize myself better on the inside, so I have accepted every meeting with other people as a gift.”

The book itself is a wonderful gift too, so if you feel inspired, for yourself or for others, here is where you can order it. It’s available both in English, in German as well as in Dutch.
