Zara Picken is an illustrator based in Lincoln, UK, who creates digital illustrations inspired by the unique style of paper-cut art. Since graduating from the University of the West of England in Bristol in 2008, Picken has been working with a diverse range of international clients, including the likes of The Boston Globe, BBC, Wired, Lonely Planet, and many many more. Besides creating commercial illustrations for editorial, publishing, and advertising, in her spare time, she works on her illustration history research project Ephemerama! (an archive of print c.1950-1975.)

Her work often incorporates a humorous side, something clever, as visual cues and context are the keys to a well-executed concept. Most importantly it feels fresh and new, and while illustration may be considered as one of the oldest forms of communication – Picken’s work feels more timeless and fun.
